Burning & Safety Instructions for Your Handmade Soy Candle
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience with your handmade soy candle, please follow these essential burning and safety guidelines:
1. First Burn:
- For the best results, allow your candle to burn for 2–4 hours on the first use to ensure an even melt pool across the top. This prevents tunnelling and promotes even burning for the entire life of the candle.
2. Trim the Wick:
- Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting. A longer wick can cause a higher flame, which may lead to excessive soot or a faster burn. Use a wick trimmer or scissors to keep the wick neat and controlled.
3. Keep the Candle Away from Drafts:
- Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, and keep it away from drafts, vents, and fans. Drafts can cause uneven burning and increase the risk of accidents.
4. Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended:
- Never leave your candle burning unattended. Always extinguish the flame when leaving the room, even if it's just for a short time.
5. Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets:
- Keep candles out of the reach of children, pets, and any flammable materials. Never let pets or children play with or disturb a burning candle.
6. Burn on a Flat Surface:
- Always burn your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface. A stable surface prevents the candle from tipping over and spilling hot wax, which could cause burns or damage.
7. Extinguishing the Flame:
- Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame to avoid hot wax splattering. Do not use water to extinguish the flame, as it can cause the hot wax to splatter and potentially cause burns.
8. Check the Wax Level:
- Stop burning the candle when 1/2 inch of wax remains in the container to avoid overheating the jar or the surface underneath. This will also ensure the wick is not exposed to extreme heat.
9. Proper Storage:
- When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This helps maintain the fragrance and quality of the wax.
10. Safety First:
- If you notice any irregularities while burning (e.g., flickering flame, black smoke, or excessive heat), extinguish the candle immediately, allow it to cool, and inspect for any damage.
